Second thoughts about leaving your Job
Before meeting with your boss to hand in your letter of resignation,
review the situation. There is still time to change your mind. Assess
the validity of your reasons for wanting to leave your job and ask
yourself if you are certain you want to leave.
Even if faced with a counter-offer of extra pay or benefits, you will
have to think about what your boss will think of you, now that they
know you wanted to leave.
Here are some questions to help you decide whether leaving your job
is the right decision for you.
- Have you compared the pros and cons of your current role with the
new job you’ve been offered?
- Have you done everything you could at your current company to get in
line for promotion?
- Would an offer of promotion, a higher salary or more benefits
convince you to stay?
- Are you a heart over head decision maker? Your head not your heart
should be behind this decision.
- What spurred you to look for another job in the first place? Is that
still an issue? Is it likely to change?
- Do you have goals and ambitions that can only be achieved with a
move to another company/job?
